Ram Bhandar
Thapathali, Kathmandu
-
Ram Bhandar is one of the oldest and most famous traditional sweet shops (mithai pasal / maari‑pasal) in Kathmandu, run by a family of confectioners from the Rajkarnikar community.
-
The shop’s roots trace back to the 19th century: according to one source, its origin story goes back to a sweet maker from the palace kitchen (in the pre‑Rana or early Rana era) — the family had served the royal court, and later opened Ram Bhandar under royal patronage.
-
Over generations (now 4th/5th generation), the family has continued the tradition, preserving recipes and skills passed down from ancestors — making it a living heritage shop for Nepali sweets.
-
Traditional mithai & festive sweets: items like jeri / swari, lakhamari, selroti / puri, malpuwa, peda, barfi, laddoo, lalmohan, rasbari, gund‑pak and other sweets/snacks associated with festivals, pujas or celebrations.
