Purna Ashok Mithai Pasal
Maru Tole Basantpur, Kathmandu
-
The shop dates back to about 1880, when it was established by a member of the Rajkarnikar community.
-
Over generations the business passed down in the family; the current operator (as of recent sources) is the fourth generation (after Purna Das → Ashok Das → Dhir Das → present custodian).
-
Because of its long history, the shop carries legacy and tradition — it's part of the old “maari pasal” heritage of Kathmandu, preserving traditional recipes and sweets craftsmanship.
-
Classic sweets: pedas (milk‑based sweets), various barfis, laddu, and dry‑fruit/suji‑based sweets.
-
Traditional “heritage” sweets/snacks — including items like lakhamari, kaajukata, “jeri / swari,” and other sweets associated with old‑style Newari or Kathmandu Valley pastry traditions.
-
Items suitable for festivals, rituals, and special occasions — because “maari pasals” (heritage sweet shops) like this historically served local communities for religious ceremonies, weddings, and social events.
