It plays a role in legal aid: under the Legal Aid Act and related frameworks, the NBA is recognised for providing or organising legal aid for indigent persons, especially in collaboration with government and donor‑funded programmes.

It organises conferences, seminars, continuing legal education for members, and provides forums for the legal profession to engage with reform issues.
