LIC Nepal was incorporated on 27 December 2000 under the Companies Act (2053) in Nepal.

It obtained its life‐insurance licence from the regulator (the Nepal Insurance Authority / formerly Beema Samiti) on 7 August 2001 and commenced operations from 1 September 2001.

The company is a joint venture: the major promoter is the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC India) holding about 55% stake; the remaining shares are held by the Vishal Group of Nepal and the general public.

Head office is located in Kathmandu (e.g., Putalisadak / Star Mall area) in Bagmati Province.
