HEI was formed by the merger of two companies: Himalayan General Insurance Company Limited (HGI) and Everest Insurance Company Limited (EIC).

The merger was approved by the regulator (Nepal Insurance Authority) and the joint operation under the name “Himalayan Everest Insurance Ltd” commenced from Shrawan 1, 2079 B.S. (which corresponds to mid-July 2022).

The share-swap ratio used in the merger: 85 shares of HGI = 100 shares of EIC. After merger, paid-up capital of HEI reached approx. Rs 223.99 crores at that time.

According to HEI’s corporate profile, they emphasise that this was the first ever merger in Nepal’s non-life insurance industry.
